Registration Tips
When registering or even searching for a domain name, it is helpful to keep the following in mind...

1- If you search for a domain and it is available, register it at that time.  WHOIS is a public database, and as such can be searched by various scripts.  People can see not only when domains are set to expire and who owns them, but what names have been recently querried.  If you do not register the domain, others may decide it is a good name too, and register it before you make up your mind.

2- The shorter the better.  In general, a short, concise name is the best name.  This makes it more memorable and marketable.

3- Avoid hyphens and numerals, unless your company name includes them.

4- Keyword-rich names that relate to your target market should be registered in addition to your company name.  Your potential customers will not search directly for your name on the web unless already familiar with your business, so secure names that describe your services, and keywords that customers are likely to search for.  This way you will have the potential to get type-in traffic, also known as direct navigation.  For example, your company name is Joe's Tires.  Register joestires.com, and tirerepair.com and tires.com and trucktires.com and autotires.com, etc, if they are available.

5- Decide which TLDs you want, based on your business plan and the market you are trying to reach.  There are a number to chose from:
.com, .net, .mobi, .me, .org, .info, .tv, .co.uk, .eu, .be, .biz, .de, etc.

6- Register the domain names with correct ownership information.  ICANN requires accurate contact data, such as your name, email, phone number, etc.  Do not list an organization or company as the registrant unless the organization/ company actually exists.  Update the contact information if and when changes occur.  If you wish to keep your ownership out of the public eye, pay for private registration.

7- Do not register trademarked names.
